Day 3 & 4

Update: Days three and four

Yesterday, Aug 5th 2010. I was discharged from the hospital, but Carter had to stay.

It was a big day full of large ups and downs. I don't think that I've ever cried so hard in my life. I was a mess and I couldn't even control myself. I don't think anyone ever could understand, as much as they would like to or even try to, just how awful it is to leave your baby at the hospital and you come home. I tried not to feel guilty and tried to feel the comfort that my family and Heavenly Father were giving to me, and I think I did OK, but let's be honest I was a wreck!

I know people hate the hospital, I myself don't mind it. There also was a great comfort for me to be in the hospital, I was only 10 steps away from the NICU and there was always a nurse or Dr. coming in to talk to me, comfort me, support me, reassure me, etc. that is a great thing to have. Being home, yes I'm only about 10 minutes from the hospital, and yes I can call whenever I want and talk to the nurse over Carter, but it's different then being 'with him'. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone but me.

This is a picture of my room in which I spent a lot of time.

Although yesterday was hard, it also was amazing!

Carter is doing so well, he did lose some weight, but again that's normal. He is a good pee-er, and is getting ride of all the extra fluid he has in his little body. The nurse's say he is a crazy wild man! He doesn't like to be bothered when he is sleeping, but can calm himself down which is a good trait to have! He is barely breathing with the oxygen tubes, he is mainly breathing on his own!!! that's my boy!!! He pooped twice yesterday, which is perfect, that means his body is starting to get all the tar out of him and that his bowls are moving!

a BIG high light of yesterday was that I got to hold him! At this stage in his development we have to do what is called 'skin to skin'. This makes him feel close to mom, or dad. It also comforts him and lets him feel kind of like he is in side of me still. It was the most wonderful feeling in the world! I loved feeling close to him again, like he was connected again in a way. He was so calm and peaceful, and so was I.

Our little family!

Changing his first poopy diaper. Who knew poop could be so great!

little kiss's and little hands!

Last night we had the opportunity to give Carter a blessing. Mike gave it to him, and it was a powerful experience for all of us. I'm not really sure of what all what said because I was sobbing so hard, but the comfort and peace was there, and strong! I was and am so thankful to have a husband who holds the priesthood and is able to give our family such a comforting gift. I was also able to receive a comfort blessing, and boy oh boy did it help me out last night! I know things are going to be OK! God is watching over him, and me!

Today, Aug 6th 2010

It's been a good day today. We went to see him today, and Mike got to change his diaper. They have increased his feedings, so he is now getting 3 feeds a day. They also are going to keep increasing feeds by one every 12 hours, so we are making progress. He did lose a little more weight, he is down to 1 lbs 11 oz. and I got to hold him again! This time, for one hour!!!
I was in heaven!

I am so thankful for all the support and love and comfort that has been shown to us this past week! It really means a lot to us, and I know Carter is thankful for all the prayers on his behalf! Thank You!!!!!
